Cambodia Robusta Farm Renovation: When Old Trees Should Be Rejuvenated or Replaced

Older Robusta fields can remain productive, but declining yield, difficult canopies, disease pressure, or weak planting material may eventually make renovation worthwhile. The decision should compare the cost of rehabilitation with the cost and delay of replanting.

Diagnose the constraint

Low production may come from pruning, nutrition, soil, water, pests, or age. Replanting without diagnosing the cause can repeat the same problem.

Consider staged renovation

Renovating blocks over several years can reduce the risk of losing all production at once and allows farms to learn from the first blocks.
