Once a coffee drinker finds a 100% Robusta they enjoy, the purchase decision changes. The next bag is no longer a species experiment. It is a comparison purchase.
A 2026 European forum thread illustrates this clearly. The buyer used a Vietnamese 100% Robusta priced around €22.50 as a benchmark and asked for alternatives in a similar range.
Four variables appear repeatedly
1. Price
The buyer wants value, not necessarily the lowest price. A known product establishes the acceptable range.
2. Origin
Vietnam, India, Brazil, Indonesia and other origins are becoming recognizable reference points.
3. Roast style
Some consumers want traditional dark espresso. Others want medium-roast Fine Robusta with more origin character.
4. Flavor
Chocolate, nuts, crema and low acidity remain important, but fruitier or fermentation-driven profiles are also entering the market.
Why “premium” is not enough
A supplier entering this market cannot simply label a coffee premium. Buyers need a reason to move from a benchmark they already trust.
For Cambodia, that means answering a very practical question: what does a Cambodian Fine Robusta offer that a buyer cannot already get from Vietnam, India or Brazil at the same price?
The answer has to combine origin, processing, cup profile and reliable sourcing.
